Mr Alexander Reid, of South road, has received a message from the Minister of Defence informing him that his son Alick (Wamba) was wounded on September IG. No particulars are to hand.
Dr T. H. A. Valintine, InspectorGeneral of Hospitals, and SurgeonGeneral Henderson, were visitors to Hawera yesterday.
A London cablegram states that Kingi Hamana died at the Walton-on-Thames hospital. H e is said to be the first Maori soldier who has died in England.
This morning's casualty list contains the name of Second Lieutenant A. R. Sutherland, a nephew of Mr R. J. Linn, of Normanby. The late Lieut. Sutherland was at one time a resident of Hawera, and served his time in the engineering profession at Mr J. Hopkirk's foundry.
News was received in Eltham yesterday that Trooper A. Campbell, son of Mr W. J. Campbell, of Remuera (formerly of Eltham), had died of wounds received on September 23rd. Trooper Camnbell was for some time in the employ of Mr "Cresswell, grocer, of Eltham, and was about 22 years of age.
