AN URGENT APPEAL

(To the Editor.) Sir, —The women of New Zealand have answered. "the call" in the matter of war work in a wonderful way, and those living ,in and near Manaia have been no exception, as is' evidenced by the excellent box of Red Cross goods leaving here every month. The appalling casualty lists sliow 'that lately our boys have been asked "to put forth "very special efforts," so does it not behove us to do likewise ? The messages the boys send the women of New Zealand seem always to be: "Give them our love, and tell them we will see the thing right through," so let our return message to them be: "Our best love and thanks, and we will never neglect to send you comforts." .The hospital ship Marama is to leave New Zealand shortly, and with a feeling of intense•; gratitude for th.c good it has" done our many wounded boys we have determined to supply before October 20th 30 pairs of sheets and 500 banciages towards reequipping the ship. We have the material in hand, and all we ask is that many willing workers may be at the Guild room in the Manaia Presbyterian Church vestry at 2 p.m. on Tuesday next, October 10th. We are sure our appeal will not be in vain, because we feel the most we can do is not enough for the brave boys who are facing what they awe fading. BESSIE MITCHELL, Sec. Manaia Ladies' Patriotic Committee.
