WASHINGTON, May 27. The news of the torpedoing of the American vessel Nebraskan caused a big sensation in official circles. President Wilson has instructed the Department to cable Mr Gerard (Ambassador in Berlin) and Mr Page (Ambassador in London) for full reports. The Nebraskan was carrying coal for the American fleet.
LONDON, May 27. Germany has asked America for another week's delay in replying to the Lusitania Note. The Italian declaration is responsible for a calmer feeling in Germany towards America. .The reply will be of the friendliest, and every effort will be made to avoid trouble. Submarines have been instructed not to sink American vessels.
