SEND-OFF AND PRESENTATIONS
A send-off social arranged for last night (Wednesday) to our boys who have enlisted for 'service in the war was a great success, the hall being well filled by the many who wished to show their regard for the guests of the evening. A good programme had been arranged, and Master Nelson Silby gave a recitation, Miss Silby a song (encored), Mr Kurigar a song, Mr Arnold a song, and others also helped. Mr Anderson, of Pihama, played the accompaniments, and also gav*e several selections on the piano, which were much appreciated, his fine playing being much admired. Mr Farquhar made the presentation of a pocket Testament to each of the volunteers, namely, A. Manhinney, F. Silby and A. and G. Gi-aham, and *also explained that each would receive a sleeping bag and electric torch, which, owing to the short notice, had jpot yet come to hand. Supper was then handed round, and the hall cleared for dancing. Great credit is due to the energetic committee, who spared no troxible in doing all in their power to make the evening a success. After a hearty votr ? thanks to the performers and eh-: man (Mr Surrey), and a hearty ch~ • for the volunteers, the evening closed with the siging of "God Save the King.'-1 !
