The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., Stratford branch, report as follows:

On Friday, 14th May, we held cur second sale at Matau yards, by thp kind permission of Messrs Matthews and Gamlin, when the attendance was good. There was a fair yarding of 15 7 head of cattle and 926 sheep. Cattle were much slower, although we effected a fair clearance. Sheep, however, were much duller and only a small number changed hands at the following prices: F.m. ewes, cully, 10s, medium quality up to 14s, 2-tooth wethers 17s 6d to 18s, fats were passed :n at 20s to 21s, store cows (poor) 60s, medium 61s to 70s, fair up to 81s, iu-calf heifers 83s to 955, mixed weuners (small) 10s to 11s, medium 17s, rair 22s 6d, weaner steers from 26s for medium to 35s for a fair line of good colored, yearling steers (small) 39s to 465.

On Tuesday, 18th inst., our usual fortnightly sale was held in our Stratford yards. There was a fair yarding of 364 head of cattle and 080 sheep. The attendance was good and fair Lusiness was effected at the hammer and afterwards. Good store cows showed a slight improvement. Store cows (small and old) neglected at from 45s to 70s, medium lines 71s to 88s, fair 90s to 102s, fat cows 105s to 140s, weaner heifers neglected still, but good hnes realised from 27s to 355, in-calf hewers (small) 74s to 80s, good lines from £6 to £6 ss, spayed fat heifers up to 1755, dairy cows in profit £10, balls (small) 56s to 755, f.m. ewes 10s to 12s 6d, lambs (stood) 13s. Our nextStratford sale wilr be held on Tuesday June 1.

On Thursday, 20th inst., we held cur monthly Kohuratahi sale, when we had a fair yarding of sheep, but a small entry of cattle. The attendance wss f;ood. Two to 2^-year steers ironi 81s o 105s, 18-months heifers (small) 40s, bulls (small) up to 955, 2-tooth wethers (small) 14s, medium 18s, fair lines 19s, f.m. ewes (fair line) 15s, lambs sold at 10s to 12s and several good lines were passed in at 13s 3d. Our next -sale at this point will be held on 17th June.
