WESTPORT COAL.
WESTPORT, May 23. The Hon. Mr Herries arrived at Westport on Saturday morning and inspected the railways and conferred with the Harbor Board in the afternoon. In the evening he met deputations in the Town Hall. The main question was the importation of coal. The Minister, said he was taking 35,000 tons of coal for the railways this year from the coast, as compared with 74,000 tons last year, and would take more if the companies met him in regard to the price.
