PRISONER JUMPS FOR LIBERTY.

BT TELEGRAPH—PRESS ASSOCIATION TIMARU, May 23

Last evening a youth, who had escaped from the JJurnham Industrial School and was being taken back from Invercargill on the second express in charge of a constable, leapt from the train between Timaru and Smithfield. When the train reached Temuka the police at Timrau were informed, and went out expecting to find him lying injured, but saw nothing of him. To-day it was ascertained that the young man called at a house some little distance from the line and said he had fallen from the train. He was given refreshments and his wounds dressed. He appeared to have broken his arm and his face was cut. The search has been proceeding all day.
