United States has decided that merchantmen of belligerent nations entering ports may carry guns ;not exceeding six-inch for defence without acquiring the character of ships of war. : fhe guns must not-be mounted forward, and only a little ammunition may be carried, and the vessel must be manned with the same number as before the war. ■:■. i ■ ■
