OPPOSITION UNDERSTOOD' TO OBJECT.

THE CONFERENCE FAILS TO

AGREE

[By Telegraph—Special to Star.] ' WELLINGTON, Sept. 22. Ihe Government intends to fix date of elections for December, and to proceed with their legislative programme with unimportant exceptions. It is also certain no agreement on the subject-was arrived at in the conference with the Oppositon. • Sir Joseph Ward and the Liberal party are opposed to taking the elections while the country is so concerned over European happenings. Labour has not been consulted over the question. The Government apparently has had thrown upon it the whole responsibility for the proposed'course of action.
