EFFECT OF THE WAR.
According to a statement made by i a judgment debtor in tho Hawera Magistrate's Court this morning, the war
is already having an effect on the cote- ' mercial life of the community. The debtor, who was connected with a firm of skin and hide buyers operating in this district, said he believed that buying by his firm had been temporarily suspended, and as a consequence he was now out of employment. "I am one of the first persons in Hawera- to be affected by the war," he remarked. He added that he had a wife and a small family to keep, and he did not know how he was going to keep the wolf from the dooi. T,he Magistrate stated that thp class of business mentioned by the aebtor, was that which would likely cease for a time. Counsel said he could not ask for an order under the circumstances, and no : order was made.
