PATRIOTIC FUND CONTRIBUTIONS.

Sir, —Permit me to suggest to my old comrades, the Taranaki veterans, ! ?\ ho T haa tne honor of helping to keep the British flag flying in their youth, but are now incapacitated through old age, to do more than protect their homes should the occasion require it. In my opinion, we can still be of some service to the State in organising an ambulance corps. All under the British tiag should be ever ready to assist in upholding the honor of our King and the Empire. Should this matter be taken up. as I hope it will be, a small contribution from each member of the Veterans' Association throughout the colony would be of very great assistance to our boys wherever they may be destined to travel, either at home or abroad. Will you, sir, kindly receive contributions and assist in forwarding this _ movement ? I enclose my cheque of £00, to form a nucleus of a veterans' contribution to the war fund, either for the purpose indicated, or as the Defence Minister thinks most desirable.

Pll . , VETERAN. L>\e have unqualified pleasure in acceding tc our correspondent's request with respect to the receipt of contributions, and are equally pleased to acknowledge the receipt of his own handsome contribution.—Ed.]
