KAPONGA 11. v. OPTJNAKE 11. The above teams met at, Opunake on Saturday, the result being a walk over for Kaponga to the tune of 38 to nil. WAIMATE v. HAWERA. This match was played at the Manaia Domain on Saturday afternoon, and resulted in a win for the visitors by a small margin of one point after an interesting and well contested game. The Blues were the first to score, Surgenor securing a good try within the first five minutes. Hawera then got to work and kept the blues busy defending their line. Grant and Winks both srcored tries within a short interval, the latter try being converted by Sheehan. This spell ended: Hawera 8, Waimate 3. On resuming play, the blues then having the advantage of the wind, kept Hawera moving, but their defence was very good, and the blues' repeated attempts to cross their line failed. Surgenor, from a penalty, -kicked a goal, making the scores Hawera 8, Waimate 6. Hawera then forced play into Waimate 25, and from a penalty kick "Winks added 3 more points to Hawera's score—ll—6. Shortly afterward Barlow secured the tall from a bad pass and by a drop kick secured a good goal, making the scores 11—10. Ifroni then on the blues kept Hawera defeniing their line, but the repeated attempts by the blues to score failed, and the game ended—Hawera 11, Waimate 10. Mr D. Ryan, as referee, controlled the game well.
