£20,000 FOR POLO.

The directors of the Panama Pacific Exposition announce that "they have set aside £20,000 for the furtherance of a World's Polo Tournament, the first ever held." With the approval of the American Polo Association already granted, the officials of the Exposition hope that a score of countries will be represented by one or more teams each. The period fixed, from March 15 to May 1, 1915, ensures good weather in California and at the sametime provides for the closing of the tournament ahead of the usual dates fop other big matches in the East and West. It is also announced through the Exposition publicity bureau, that Chile, Argentine, Germany, England, Ireland, Hawaii, Cuba, Canada and India have already been sounded, with flattering responses; in America efforts will be made to line up the best civilian teams and those of the army. MajorGeneral Leonard Wood is named as honorary director, and it is not thought unlikely that there will be a President's Cup or other trophy. The executive committee is made up mostly of prominent polo players, under the chairmanship of Mr J. S. Tobin.
