A MAN OF HIS WORD.
A well-known Parisian poet lately astonished his friends by appearing with a full beard in place of his customary "toothbrush". moustache. An acquaintance asked the reason for the change. The poet replied: "I was having a. shave at the barber's when, just as the man was lathering me, my tailor came in and asked when I was going to pay the large bill that I owed him. I replied, 'Well, you must wait until I have been shaved.' 'Oh, I will wait until you have shaved if you like,' was the reply. I stopped the barber instantly, and now I shall have to wear this beard until, I can pay the bill. However, it is a relief to think that I cannot be dunned."
