WHAKAMARA.

(From Oub Own Correspondent.)

On Friday evening last a dance was held at the Whakamara Hall. There was a good attendance of local dancers, and there were also a good many visitors^ Mr Melville again amused the audience frith another of his comic items. Dancing was kept up till the wee small hour, and so ended another very successful little flutter. The opening day of the shooting season threatened to be anything but good, but as the day advanced it improved splendidly, and turned out not a bad day aft-all. Guns were firing in all directions, showing^ that quite a number of sportsmen ' were afield. Some visitors were here from the Waimate Plains, and they appeared to have been well satisfied with their day's, outing.
