CONVICTION FOR GAMBLING

GREYMOTJTH, April 28. At the Magistrate's Couvt, Robert Knight, licensee of the Trafalgar Hotel, was charged with allowing gambling on his premises. A constable, seeing a light in the bar at 3.45 a.m. on Friday, made investigations. He entered by the top storey and came downstairs. He found the defendant in a room watching three men playing "snap poker," and money on the tablet. A conviction was recorded, with a fine of £7. The license w ras not endorsed^ as the players were all boarders, and; this was a first offence.
