SCHOOL PICNIC

CFBOM OUR OWU COfcBEBPOm>ENTJ

The annual school treat was held in Mr A. J. Uibbss paddock on Thursday last; the weather being unusually hue, .it.passed off very successfully. The only drawback to mar the day's enjoyment was an accident to Mr Dick's little seven-year-old daughter, Linda, Avho fell whilst'running a race and fractured her collar bone, but first aid being rendered and medical assistance procured the little one was soon made as comfortable as circumstances would permit, and is now progressing favorably. The ladies provided luncheon and teaj of which there was a bounteous supply. The committee w rere kept busy supervising games and races, a splendid supply of toys being in evidence, and every child present, was made happy, with one. The chairman (Mr Willis; gave out the prizes and presented the proficiency certificates. The candidates were Phyllis Wells, Roy Hodge, and Laurie Willis, all three successfully passing their examinations. It must' be very pleasing to tne pupils and parents to hear the result of the examination. The pupils have gained a higher number of marks each succeeding year while Mr Best has been headmaster, and it reflects great credit on him, particularly when he lias had over fifty children to teach for,the past five or six months, without any assistance. The attendance certificates were also presented; namely, two first-class to Helen Amos, and Dennis Pankhurst. and several second class, the names of whose winners I have not ascertained. Mrs Best gave two prizes for sewing, one in the senior and one in the junior division, which were won by Dbrift Hodp-e and Nelly Green. Mrs Gibbs and Mrs Pankhurst kindly acted as judges. In concluding, the chairman called fop three cheers for the master, which all the punils heartily joined in. !n i^e evening: a dance was held in the hall to terminate the day's enjoyment. .

■ A-?d vow let. me wish vonr^f an.l staff and brother correspondents a T^erry Christmas and prosperous New Year.
