... -—» - I (From Our Own Coebespond»nt.> The weather was favor ible to the promoters of the sciool picnic, vnbl came off on Thursday, ard ./as en joyed by everyi-ie, old and young, al tV-;>;h in point of numbers it did n« cane vi to the standard of some 'ol the .former annual school functions helc at Whakamara. The children openec the ball with the usual sports and races, the winners receiving their prizes at they came in, while the ladies -mack tea and served out the good thing* provided. Afterwards the chairman of the committee (Mr Crawforil) presented the school prizes, which consisted of a very fine lot of books, and also, following the usual custom here", gave a book to each child attending the school. Three cheers were, ther called for the teacher and chairman, for the ladies for their valuable assistance at the picnic, and for Mr Seofrt for the use of the paddock. The winners in the different classes were: Primer 1: Nora Gadsby arid Eiiy Tarrant. Primer 3: Reginald Catchpok and Orissa Murch. Standard I: Mary Harrington and Thomas Parrish. St. II: Edith Parrish and Florence" Grads-* by. St. Ill: Takau. St. IV:vMaggie Cousins and A. Parrish. Attendance: Florence Gadsby and Willie Gadsby both made full attendances for the year, and are entitled to the firstclass certificate for attendance given by the Education Department. Florence Gadsby has missed only one day in the last three years. Tea was again served out, accompanied with sandwiches, cakes, and lollies, after which a move was made homewards, as it was getting near cow time. Thus ended another ' very enjoyable Whakamara school picnic.
