RURAL MAIL DELIVERIES.

The Postmaster states that the present rural motor cycle deliveries are to be re-arranged after the New Year. One carrier, to be stationed at Hawera, will serve the Whareroa and Normanby districts, and as far as Manaia; while another service, to be worked from the Manaia office, will comprise the Kapuni, Matapu, and Okaiawa districts. The present routes will be retained with extensions as follows: At Normanby, as far as the Norraanbv Dairy Factory and along the Mawtiitiwhiti road to the junction of Hastings road, thus connecting with the Manaia delivery; at Manaia along the Sheet road to the Rowan road factory, and. along the Normanby road between Okaiaw.a and Mauaia. These extensions will be made only conditionally upon the res;I dents erecting proper mail boxes, whiffr. can be purchased through the postmast ers at Hawera and Manaia, or boxes of similar pattern.

The re-arrangement of the deliveries has been necessitated by the growth of the service and % the number of boxev erected along the various routes. These had become so numerous that the carrier had no margin of time, and any stoppage for punctures or other purpose caused a late running throughout the day. With shorter runs, and the Kammi-Matapu service being centred at Manaia, instead <if Hawera, it is expected that the work can be more easily controlled, and a more punctual observance of the time-table maintained, than has been possible at times under the present arrangement.
