DEAD BODY IN THE SEA

WELLINGTON, Dec. 19. While the scow Echo was coming to Wellington on Thursday afternoon, an object, appearing to be the body of a man, clothed in a black oilskin, tied" round the waist with rope, was passed about half a mile south-west or Sinclair Head- and a' mile off shore.' As the sea was rough and a strong wind was blowing, it was impossible to attempt the recovery of the body, on the head of which was a dark slouch hat. It appeared to be pulled down over the face. The body was first seen by the ship's cook, who got such a fright that he dropped the billy he was carrying into the sea.
