KAPONGA TOWN BOARD.

(Fbom Our Own Correspondent.)

The monthly meeting of this Board was held on Tuesday evening.. Present: Commissioners Guv (chairman), Allen, Betts, Death and Law. The matter of the conmpletioii of the main roads renewal was discussed, the Chairman announcing that it had arranged with the contractor for the supply of crushed metal, to start deliver? at the New Year. A quotation! for tar had been received, and the engineer considered it very reasonable. It had yet to be decided in exactly what manner the tar should be applied. Eventually it was arranged that the Board should acceot Mr Basham's invitation to insnect the experimental patch on the Mountain road where he had applied his restar formula, and decide the matter thereafter.

In view of the additional facilities and convenience that would be provided thereby for residents, it was decided that the Deoartment be approached and asked to open the local post office for telegraph and telephone business between the hours of 7 and 8 p.m. each evening, in addition to the present hours. As the postal officers are in attendance about that time for receiving and eorting the evening mail, it was thought the matter ought to be readily arranged in consequence. It was decided that several persons claiming royalty should be requested to put the amounts of their claims in writing, when they would receive the Board s favorable consideration. Tlie foreman reported for the month as follows: The Eltham road west had been graded, the bank removed, and the watertable formed adjacent to the creamery. An additional fire, plug to serve new dwellings being erected had been inserted on the main on the JVlanaia road north. Three properties had been connected with the sewerage system and four with the water supply during the month.

The foreman was directed to ap? projioh the Dairy Company and Mr C. J. Hollard and. endeavor to arrange to secure from their urooertiee sufficient spoil to complete the filling of the footpath on the Manaia road to the level of the concrete kerbing; to remove the rubbish from the front of the Town Hall, the persons responsible for it to be charged therefor; to complete the digging of a ditch throughout the length of the creek on tho Victoria Park, and thus mitigate what is at present unsightly and inconvenient to users of the Park.

Seeing that the lengthy culvert in front of the Dairy Company's premises was in a dangerous state of disrepair, it was resolved that the company be requested to have the matter attended to without delay, either by repairing or renewing in concrete, the Board offering to do the work on the usual, conditions.

Complaint was made of the action! of a householder in throwing unsigh^-J ly rubbish on the roads, and it was resolved to write, requesting that the practice be not repeated. ', Resolved, that notification be advertised of the Board's intention to take the usual steps for the collection of all rates outstanding after December 31. The Works Committee reported that arrangements had been made, in terms of the resolution of lthe previous meeting; with the contractor for the erection of posts; and gates at the cemer tery, as to increasing ,the dimensions <>f the posts, etc .—Action endorsed.

: A resolution was passed covering the verbal arrangement that had been made .with the Bank : with respect to providing the necessary funds for the erection of the Park pavilion,,- an amount of £100 .being allowed for the erection of the first, portion; tenders to be called as soon as the necessary plans and specifications are prepared.

The Town Clerk -ulvised that the Athletic Club and Hockey Club; with a donation of £15 and £5 respectively, were the only two clubs that bad so far responded to the Board's invitation to contribute towards the pavilion. It was resolved that; they be thanked for their donations.

Accounts amounting to £100 were passed.
