AUCKLAND, Dec. 17. ,<Two days after the Niagara left Vancouver she encountered a gale of hurricane force lasting three days. The vessel was hove-to for fifteen hours and huge seas battered her sides and washed the decks. Passengers had an uncomfortable time but the vessel was jot damaged. During £he gale the Niagara proved remarkably steady. She brought a record .cargo or 1220 tons for Auckland, 240 tons for southern ports, and 1975 tons for Australia, and had a full passenger list.
