(From Our Own Cop.tvespondent.^ A branch of the Christian Endeavor Society has been established under the. auspices of the combined churches of Kaponga. The following office-bearers were duly elected at the first meeting:—President, Rev. F. Rands; vicepresidents, Rev. Mr 'Stewart and Mr C. Relf; secretary. Miss Relf; treasurer. Miss L. Cumberworth ; organist, Miss M. Relf. A syllabus of subjects to be dealt with at the weekly meetings has been drawn up, printed and distributed. The indications are for a successful season. .The Society meets every Thursday in the hall. At a well-attended meeting presided over by Mr A." Colson, held in the ' hall on. Monday evening, October 6, to discuss the question of railway routes between Opunake and the main line, the following resolution, proposed by Mr Anderson and seconded by Mr Whittington, was carried unanimously:—"That this meeting of settlers strongly iir^es on the Prime Minister and the Minister of Public; Works the desirability of having a detailed survey of the Stratford-Kaponga route made for reasons as follows: (1) That n dc- . tailed survey will probably show that the comparative cost of formation of this ■ line will be much less than has been stated,' because the rivers in the areas concerned are easier to negotiate on this route than on the other proposed routes'; ('2) that -this route will provide the best convenience for by far the largest area and population, and will give the best and most direct access to the port of Sew Plymouth, the only deep sea port of Taranaki : (o) that the necessary extra j.i nation with any other route must infii-t de'ay, expense and inconvenience on the public for all time.
