After a series of most interesting matches, Hawera were victorious by 7£ matches to "4£. Scores were as follow, Waverley first in each case: Coghill 0, O'Callaghan 1; Muir 1, Turton 0; Cave 0, Tarrant 1; Christie 1, Ryan 0; Jones 1, Welsh 0; Rutherford 0, Tonks 1; Johnston 0, Burgess 1; Aiken 1, Stevens 0; Riddell 1, Page 1; Merriman 0, Nalder 1; Dickie 0, Blair 1: Curtis £, Cox i ; Metealfe 0, Pratt 1. Hawera players went down by the mail train, and after playing a few holes came back at 11.30 for lunch. A right royal spread was put on by the ladies, and needless to say their kind efforts were most heartily appreciated. Then the mat.eh was played, and afterwards a very nice afternoon tea was served by the ladies. Just prior to the departure of the visitors, Mr D. Coghill, the Waverley fcaptain, expressed the pleasure his Club felt at the visit, and called for three cheers, which were given heartily. Mr O'C.allaghan, on behalf of the Hawera team, replied, acknowledging the cordial remarks, and expressing the mutual pleasure felt by his team in paying the visit. Three hearty cheers were given for Waverley, and one more —in which both teams joined—for the ladies. Hawera team feel they owe a debt of gratitude to the ladies and to the Waverley team for their more than generous efforts on their behalf. The Hawera men then came away, having thoroughly enjoyed the day's outing, and regretting only that they had not gone down by the early train, and thus been able to play foursomes.
