PARNELL-O'SHEA CASE.
NEW LIGHT ON THE SUBJECT
VS CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT,
(Received Sept. 8, 12.30 p.m.) LONDON, Sept. 7. Mr T. O'Brien publishes a letter in which the late Mr Parnell, in January, 1890, referring to the divorce case, .said: "If the case were fully gone into it would show that the discredit and dishonor are not on my side." Subsequently he told Mr O'Brien that the whole complexion of the affair would have been altered had he given evidence concerning Captain O'Shea. He had pressed upon Sir' Francis Lockwood, Mrs O'Shea's counsel, that her husband should be examined, and almost came to blows with 'him over it. Sir F. Lockwqod many years afterwards told Mr O'Brien that he was afraid Mr Parnell had been badly treated, and added: "I have some remorse myself." Mr O'Brien adds- "The letter is important, as the only confidential .glimpse in Parnell's handwriting of the inmost truth of the transaction, ■which if fully investigated^ would have waved him the most painful part in -the discredit. It would have prevented 'the divorce and revolutionised the Jristory of the last twenty years.
