(Received Sept. 6, 12.30 p.m.) MELBOURNE. Sept. 6. Mr MacPherson, a Liberal, has been elected for the Hawthorne seat in the Assembly, Avhich became vacant through Mr Swinburne accepting an appointment on the inter-State Commission. The State Cabinet has. declined to give a subsidy to a line of steamers "trading to the East.
