HOOD BEATS McCORMICK.
Messrs F. G. Hood and J. McCormick, the two Auckland professionals, played an exhibition match on the Inglewood links on Thursday afternoon for a purse presented by some of the members of the Club.. The game was 6ne of 18 holes, and was very interesting to the followers. Both played well, and drove splendidly all the afternoon. Occasional approach shots owing, possibly, to the want of knowledge of the greens, were not,up to the standard of professional play, but the play generally through the green was very good, and much appreciated By the members of the Club. Starting from the first tee, McCormick won the first hole in 4, to Hood's 5. The next seven holes were halved, while Hood won the ninth in a four to his opponent's 5. They were thus all square at the turn. Commencing the second round, Hood won the tenth in a 3 to a' 4, the eleventh was halved ill 6,' and Hood won the twelfth in a4to a 5. McCormick won the next two holes at 3 to 5 and 5 to 5 respectively, making the score all square. Hood won the succeeding two at 3 to 4 and 4 to o, and was fhus dormy tw"o. The seventeenth was halved in 4, and so Hood won the game by 2 up and 1 to play. \ Finishing the rounds, the medal scores were: Hood, 41 and 37—78; McCormick, 41 and 40 —81. Hood's score of 78 constitutes a record for the Inglewood links. —Taranaki Herald.
