OTAKEHO.

LJROM htth OWN COKRESrONEIKT.A wedding was celebrated at the residence of Mr and Mrs T. Dixon by the Rev 11. B. Spiers. The contracting parties were Mr Thomas Abbot dickering son of Mr John Pickering of Carlisle, Cumberland, England, and Miss Mary Margaret Oteueia', third daughter of Mr W. Oldfield, of Dulston, Cumberland, England The bride, who was attired in cream ninon trimmed with . silk, and who wore a wreath and. veil and carried a very handsome bouquet of native New Zealand flowers, was attended by Miss E i Hooper as bridesmaid, and Mr T# Bow-en acted as best man. After the | wedding ceremony the party were entertained, at a sumptuous, repast, when I the usual complimentary speeches and I toasts were honored. * The presents which were numerous and. costly bore evidence to the esteem in which the young couple are held. The bride arid bridegroom afterwards left for New Plymouth, where the honeymoon is to be spent.. f- . At the meeting of the, school com^ nuttee held on Monday night, it was decided that the school tennis court be proceeded with at once, and that it be laid down m asphalt. The old adage that "fortune favors the brave" was evidently the hope and anticipation of a local sport who was earnestly hoping that a horse of his would prove itself faster than one owned by another sportsman here. The tornier was indeed courageous, considering the records held by the horse of his opponent, but, alas! fortune favored the wrong sportsman, and now that the trotting contest is over there is to be round here at least Qne profited, by the experience. The Otakeho Hall , Committee concluded its season's dances on Wednesday evening, when a long night dance was held. During the evening the points' prizes for the euchre parties were presented, that of the ladies being won by Miss A. White, and the men s, after a very exciting play-off between Messrs L. Mudford and S. McNeill, was secured by the former.
