FOOTBALL.

RUGBY

Opunake (says a writer in the Opunake Times) is very fortunate in having J. McLeod (last year's rep, captain) in their ranks. He has proved himself a heady player. Now is the chance for any budding Opunakeites to learn a thing or two. With his leadership the backs should give a good account of themselves before the season is far advanced. Deegan and Martin will be absent when the roll is called, but O'Sullivan (2) Rowlands, Bowman and Sievewright will be found in the thick of the fight. Rowlands, who has pace and uses his head as well, should be a first class wing forward. O'Sullivan (2), Bowman and Sievewright are well seasoned players and with the hep of Bigger, who is a young player, but who shows energy, should hold up their end j with the best of their opponents. Lusk will be missed from the threequarter line and also Paki. Raynqr is to be tried at half and with a little coaching, should prove a success, ETohai at centre three-quarter, has a few faults to correct, one which is very noticeable is trying to beat too many men, but this can easily be remedied.
