HAWERT CIRCUIT.

The Hawera Circuit quarterly meeting was held on Thursday evening, when nineteen officials wero present. The meeting was preceded by tea, at 6 o'cleck, when ample justice was done to the excellent repast provided by Mr J. P. Keen.

The chairman (Rev. W. A. Burley) ! gave a cordial welcome to Mr R. H. ! Clement, who had removed to the ! Hawera Circuit. j Membership returns showed a slight decrease for the quarter, owing to removals, while the balance sheet showed a credit of £10 17s 9d. j A letter was read from the President of the Conference with reference to financial difficulties in the "Wa'ihi circuit, as a result of tha strike, and asking for assistance. The sum of 30s was unanimously voted for this purpose. The reports of Sunday schools and Christian Endeavour societies, were very satisfactory. Mr A. Thompson was appointed Superintendent of the Normanby school, and Messrs R. H. Clement and K. Hall were appointed society stewards at Normanby. By unanimous vote, it was decided to invite the Rev. E. O. Blamires as Superintendent of the Circuit for next year. There was a long discussion on the circular issued hy "The Welfare of the Church" Committee, with reference to the failure of the Church to keep pace with the growth of the pnrml^+irvn in +he dominion. Statistics showed that the Hawera Circuit had more than met its obligations in this respect, but many suggestions were made for more systematic working. The meeting was adjourned for a fortnight to enable committees to report on questions discussed. It was decided to hold tho next quarterly meeting at Normanby, and to accept the invitation of the local officials to tea on October 9.
