HUNTING.

(By Chase.) On Wednesday last the Egmont-Wan-ganui Hounds met on the property of Mr J. Imlah, Manaia. Although a very few straight goers put in an appearance, those that did face the weatherwere well rewarded by having the pleasure of the best nm ever experienced on the plains. Probably the fact that hares wore so scarce accounts for it. After the cast-off the huntsmen kept the oaek manoeuvring from place to place for fnllv an hour and a half before puss was.,driven from cover on the banks of tne Kaupokonui stream. Both horses and hounds were then kept busy, as the going was heavy, and some stiff wire and boxthorn fences had to be negotiated on the course. One of the noticeable features of tbe run was the scarcity of empty saddles, wbich is saving a lot for the condition and the fine class of horses out, as good judges consider P"ss ran nine miles before she was pulled to earth. Tlie followers then adiourned to the residence of Mrs D. Mitchell, where the hostess regaled them with a dainty afternoon tea. which was very acceptable after the hard day's hunting. The deputy master thanked Mrs Mitchell for her kind hosmtality.. and cheers were -',v'e" X the hunt members, after which all left for home thoroughly satisfied with the day's enjoyment. ' Amongst t^ose following were: Deputy Master on lawhere. Miss Briges on Dougal H Crocker on Silver, E. Foreman on Bushy 1 arK, N. Crocker on Ramani, D. Kin^ on Rowan, T. Robertson on lugeu Kin" der A. Crocker on Acquilo, D. Cocker on Hirstlands. B. Gordon on Raka Raka (huntsman). J. Robertson on Shanks and several others.
