RANGITIKEI RACING CLUB
COMMISSION'S ACTION DEFENDED
BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION
AUCKLAND, July 13. Mr John Rowe, a member of the Racing Commission, commenting on Mr Massey's statement as to the possible restitution of a racing permit to the Rangitikei Club, said the Commission had made it plain in its report that it did not consider there was any real need for curtailment of the number of racing days in New Zealand considering the scattered nature of population. The Commissioners had to reduce the number of days and did it to the best of their ability. Rangitikei was omitted because it was quite close to b»th Wangafiui and Marton, and was without railway connection with other centres. Its appointments were also defective. If Rangitikei were given back its permit, presumably at the expense of Wanganui or Marton, no doubt other places would be encouraged by the success of Rangitikei's appeal.
