DOMINION CONFERENCE

BY TELEGRAPH-PEESP ASSOCTATIOW

WELLINGTON, June 25. Tlie Dominion Conference of the NewZealand Alliance opened to-day, Mr Wesley Spragg presiding. The'annual report stated that the vote for nolicense steadily increased at each poll, rising from 49,000 in 1893 to 234,656 in 1911, when the majority in favor of nolicense was 54,282. Reference was made to the alleged misrepresentation by the "trade" concerning the prohibition vote in Maine. It was stated that the churches-had helped the no-license movement, but Archbishop Redwood's attitude was deeply deplored. The printed rolls used in the recent campaign contained many thousands of names which had no right to be there. The rolls had 5000 more names than there were adults in the dominion. * determined effort would have to be made to remove the unjust three-fifths handicap.

Resolutions were nassed reaffirming the demand fo^ a simole majority and for tbe abolition of thp four veals' delay in the coming into operation of ™-ohibUion when carried; also that the Licensing Act should be nme^ded to 'irerp«t. th^ pvnrdnvTnent of unb'censpd bo—oM<! i n private bars, as well as in public bars.
