HIGH EPISCOPAL HONORS

BY TETiEGRAPH—PRESS ASSOCIATION. CHRISTCHURCH, June 24. Bishop Grimes celebrated his silver episcopal jubilee yesterday. Special services were held at the Catholic Cathedral.

During the morning service it was announced that a communication had been received from the Secretary of State to His Holiness the Pope, Cardinal Mterry del Val, stating that IBishop Grimes had been enumerated amongst the domestic staff of the Pope, and had been proclaimed a noble, and joined to the members of the home nobles. He had been granted the privilege of private oratory, the privilege of wearing silk vestment, and the right of having a place in the Pontificial chapels reserved for bishops who were assistants at the throne, it is stated that the honor of bishop-assistant at the pontificial throne is enioyed by only 14 other bishops in the English-speaking world. It was also announced during the service that the Holy Father had been graciously pleased, through the Patriarch of Jerusalem, to create Bishop Grimes Bishop Knight Commander of the Holy Sepulchre. The following message has been received from the Secretary of State to His Holiness: "On the joyful occasion of the twenty-fifth anniversary of your lordship's episcopal last night, the Holy Father imparts to you most cordially a special apostolic blessing. As a pledge or the great abundance of your favors. His Holiness also sends a special blessing to you for the clergy and the faithful of your diocese. —(Signed) Cardinal Merry del Val."
