WHARF COLLAPSES.

NUMBER OF PERSONS DROWNED

8Y CABLE—PBESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT!

(Received June 25, 1 p.m.)

NEW YORK, June 24

A wharf at Westshore, Grand Island, collapsed while excursionists were landing from a steamer, and a hundred persons were precipitated into the water.

Five bodies have been recovered and 18 are missing. No hope is entertained of their safely.

The wharf was situated 12 miles above Niagara Falls, and the swift current carried off the struggling mass of humanity. Those clinging to the timbers of the broken wharf saw others carried from their sight, but were unable to render aid.
