PRESIDENTIAL CAMPAIGN
SPLIT IN THE REPUBLICAN
PARTY
MR ROOSEVELT'S PROGRAMME
BY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT. CHICAGO, June 24.
In view of the Republican split, extraordinary interest centres in -ithe Democratic Convention at Baltimore. A similar conflict has broken out between the conservative and progressive wings.
Messrs Woodrow and Wilson have joined Mr W. J. Bryan in opposing Governor Parker's candidature for the chairmanship, believing that if the conservatives dominate the Convention many progressive Democrats will support Mr Roosevelt.
Reuter states that Mr Roosevelt's platform will be thoroughly progressive, and includes women's suffrage, tariff revision, a. national commission to control trusts,, and the revision and strengthening of the monetary laws without centralising credit.
