i The funeral of Mr W. Swadling on Friday was largely attended by people from all parts of the district and elsewhere, between three and four hundred person^ gathering at the graveside. The service was conducted by the Rev. Mr Klingender at the Anglican Church, and at the interment in the Kapono-a cemetery, the Rev Mr Kent, of Eltham, assisted on behalf of the Church of England's Men's Society, of the local branch of which Mr Swadling was the first member. The Oddfellows' Lodge paraded 56 strong, and their portion of the service was read by Provincial District Grand Master Bro. Snowden. Messrs E. Baker, A. Grace, R. Gibson. 1». Law G. Melville, and A. Tait acted as pall-bearers. Those present included and the members and staff of the EJtharo County Council, except Crs. Pease and King, who were absent from the district; representatives from the various dairy companies, the Mayor of Stratford (Mr Kirkwood), Mr "Dingle (representing the Freezing Works and JJox Companies), and numerous others. Wreaths were sent from the Hnwera Hospital and Charitable Aid Board Eltham County Council, and Dairy Company, and Kaponga Town Board, and many others from sympathising local residents and in ends; these, with-the score* of telegrams and letters received, indicated the very high esteem in which Mr Swadling had been held and the appreciation of his efforts on behalf of tll« public during his later years. The only vacancy caused by the death of Mr Swadling which has yet been filled w that of the position of director of the Kaponga Dairy Company, to which Mr George Hollard has been elected in we meantime.
