KAPUM.

[FROM OTJR OWN COBBESPONDENT 3

The plain and fancy dress ball held on the 19th inst. last was, considering the state of the weather, an unqualified success, and a credit to those who spent so much time in making the necessary preparations. About 50 couples were present, and excellent music was provided by Cosojrove's Band.

The following appeared in fancy dress: Miss P. Watts, Gypsy fortuneteller; Miss Birchall, Ridd Milking Machine; Miss Birchall, Footballer; Miss M. Graydon, "Romp"; Miss R. Graydon, schoolgh'l; Miss Borrie, nurse; J. Duncan, colonel; F. Watts, cricketer; C. Dobson, Swiss; W. Stevenson, clown. Prizes for best fancy dress were awarded to Miss D. Watts, and J. Duncan. The waltzing competition was won by Miss Barlow and Mr J. Hughes. The judges were Messrs W. Hughes, F. Hackett, and J. McLeod, who had considerable difficulty in awarding the prizes, the excellent waltzing of many couples being almost equal. The supper provided by Messrs Allen Brothers, Kaponga, was of the best quality. The supper-room arrangements were in the capable hands of Mesdames Hughes, Spiers, and Watts, who were assisted by Miss Irene and Miss Myra Spiers. The committee is indebted to these ladies for their kindly assistance, which contributed so much to the success of the evening. Messrs J. Penzer and J. Hughes acted as M.C.'s.
