EDUCATION COMMSSION
SPECIAL ASSISTANTS' SALARY
At a meeting of the Hawera District High School Committee on Friday night the chairman. (Mr E. Bates) read a letter from the Eltham District High School Committee, bringing under the notice of the Hawera Committee the advisableness of bringing before the Education Commission the question of obtaining better capitation allowance for the larger schools.
Mr Bone pointed out that as far as the local school was concerned the capitation was satisfactory. No action was taken.
The headmaster (Mr Strack) suggested that the committee might bring before the commission the necessity for better salaries being paid to the special assistants at the District High Schools.
The chairman said he understood there was room for improvement in regard to the salaries of the special assistants.
Mr Bone said this matter had come before the annual meeting when it was decided to write to the Minister for Education on the subject. A reply had since been received from the Minister to the effect that he would give the matter his early attention. He (the speaker) suggested that a copy of this letter be sent to the commission.
The chairman moved that the commission be written to on the subject and that a copy of the letter, as suggested, be forwarded to it. Mr Champion seconded the motion.
There wns no further discussion and the resolution was carried.
