BLASCHECK IN HAWERA

A refined, intellectual and artistic performance, a combination of irresistible wit and humor, and genuine pathos —this about sums up the programme one ext)ects and gets from ait artist of the^ reputation of Mr Joseph, Blaschcck. Even the manner of announcing the items is delightfully simple— "No. 36"; nothing more. Blascheck i* so good in all his work, it is hard to say which is his best. In the personation of the country yokel ("Not such a fool"), the coster boy ("My Pal Jo");, the J.P. (the squire on the* Bench), he is inimitable. He does not overdo it r but gives the right touch that makes rhe character. What more pathetic or touching could be wished than the recital of the story of "An Old Bachelor," with the little-known untold tragedy in his life's history. Wolsey's soliloqa.r from Henry VIII. was a careful, digniaed effort. The whole performance is one that is calculated to do good to anyone who goes to hear him, and this crnnot be said of every performer on the boards. The pity is that one doe* not hear work of the quality of M<- Blascheck's oftener.

Miss Wrighton plays sympathetic accompaniments for Mr Blascheck and for Vr own songs. On Wednesday night "A Coon Lullaby" and "Master and Man* Avere perhaps her best. ■ The duets the two artists sang wert • rery good." The Toys," "Spring Cleaning (grand opera), "All the World's a Stage" were clever impersonations,, and were heartily appreciated. The accompanist had the assistance of a good piano, a fine Lipp, from tho JJresden Company.
