The Posl and Telephone Office at Oeo has now been removed to the factory, and Mrs E. G. Tobba-n has been appointed postmistress.

The American Minstrels are booked for the Opera House, Hawera, for June 28, George Mavlow's Company for July 2; the English Pierrots for July 12; and July 10, Boxing Carnival.

The grand masquerade ball, to be given by the ladies ot Okaiawa, will be held on Monday, June 24, instead of on the following "Wednesday, as previously advertised.

In order to effect an earlier delivery of letters, especially in the business parts of the town, the Postmaster has arranged for the carriers to start on their rounds at 8.30 a.m., instead of 9 a.m. The alteration will begin next Mor-day, and from that date local letters, etc., intended for the first delivery must be posted at the main office not later than 8.15 a.m. An extra clearance of the pillar-box at the corner of High and Victoria streets will be made each evening at 7.15 o'clock.

A farmer in the Patea distrit supplies some interesting figures relative to the comparative profits of dairy and potato farming, says the Patea Press. These figures, taken over a number of years, show that an acre of potatoes will produce as much as eight good milch cows. As it is exceptional dairying country that will run a cow to oik and a-half acres, the figures mean that potato growing^ 12 times more h crative than dairying.

With reference to a complaint which appeared in the Star the other day about some of the street lamps being unli^hted, it might he mentioned that the lamps are all automatically lighted from the works, and each light is also period:calJy inspected. It would greatly assist to remedy defects if ratepayers who notice anything wrong with the lamps were to communicate with the Town Clerk or the secretary of the Gas Company. Any complaints' would then be promptly attended to.

The annual spring flower show in connection with the Manaia Presbyterian Church will be held at the Town Hall, Manaia, on Wednesday, September 4. Dalgety and Co. will sell sheep and cattle at Wanganui East yards on Wednesday, June 26.

The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co. will hold a sale on account of Mr E. Knapton at Otakeho on Saturday.

The annual Hibernian social will bo held at Manaia on Wednesday, June 26.

Newton King will sell cattle at Dougias yards on Monday, June 24. Young men who do not attend any church are invited to come and hear a young man at Wesley Church on Sunday evening next. The subject is, "Ts Christ Indispensable?" and the preacher will be the Rev. W. A. Burley, M.A.

Veterinary science classes are to W taken by Mr Hait, M.R.C.V.S., of Palmerston North, at Hawera, Patea, Eltham, and Manaia centres. It is hoped to take a week's continuous instruction at each centre. *
