ARCHITECTS' PROTEST.
WELLINGTON, June 10. A deputation from the Society of Architects of New Zealand waited on Mr G. W. Russell to-day and complained that such work as hospital and other buildings was not let on the competitive system.
Mr Russell replied that the Government had nothing to do with the matter beyond supervision of the work and the exercise of control inasmuch as the State provided half the cost of such works. After a long interview, he said he was willing to issue a circular to hospital boards suggesting to them that where new buildings are to be erected they might see their way to call for competitive designs. The deputation accepted this as satisfactory.
