THE GOVERNMENT'S INTENTIONS. [Br Telegrafh: —Specul t O Star.l AVELLINGTON, May 14~ Last session the Mines Commission appointed to investigate the working conditions in coal and gold mines, with a view to improvements, made a number or important recommendations to L arhament. These cover precautions to be taken against accidents, and also hygienic conditions in the mines of New Zealand. I hear that the Government intends to substantially adopt the proposals, and that steps will be taken to place them in proper legislative form before next session.
