ALTON.

IFEOM OUE OWN COEEESPONDENT.:

The Okaiawa 11. and Patea 11. football teams met on Saturday, when the former won by 6 points to 3* The game was very evenly contested throughout. It was soon seen that the Patea backs were superior to their opponents, and had the forwards passed the ball out as they should have they would have scored on more than one occasion. In Edwards they have a clever little player as half-back, who made openings for the backs time after time. In the forwards Stohr, J. Scown, and C. Hodge were the most conspicuous, the latter specially being very prominent in rushes. For Okaiawa all the forwards played a sound game, repeatedly smothering the other side,-whilst perhaps Rye was the pick of their backs. The scores were obtained' for the visitors by Rye and Bryant, and by Saywell for the local team. Mr J. Paterson acted very impartially as referee. MISCELLANEOUS. The footballers have decided to run «, series of euchre parties during the vv inter months, the first cm the 22nd s'usfc.
