The annual meeting of the Opunake %ranch of the Farmers' Union was held oti Saturday, 11th inst. There was a good attendance of members. Mr Allan occupied the chair. The report and bal-ance-sheet were adopted. The Chairman, having given a brief resume of the work of the past year, the election of officers was proceeded with, and resulted as follows: President, Mr G. Looney; vice-president. Mr F. Julian; secretary, Mr S. Feaver; auditor,, Mr G. "W.. Rogers.
A vote of thanks was passed to Mr Rogers for the services he had rendered to the branch.
The annual subscription was fixed at 10s.
Mr Looney was appointed delegate to the Provincial Confei-ence, and Messrs Looney and Julian were selected to give evidence before the Railway Commission when it sits in Opunake* , On the motion of Mr Lambie. it was resolved: "That owing to the great shortage of farm and domestic labor in the dominion, the colonial council be requested to do its utmost to induce the Government to grant assisted passages to emigrants of good character from Britain to New Zealand.
It was decided to alter the hours of meeting from 11 a.m. to 1.30 p.m. The meeting then closed. '
