AUCKLAND HOSPITAL

ENQUIRY OPENED

BY TE&EGBA.PH—PRESS ABSOCIATTON

AUCKLAND, May 13

The investigation df the charges against the administrative and disciplinary methods of the lady superintendent of the Auckland Hospital, Miss Griffiths, was commenced to-day by the Hospital Board, and six of eleven complaints made by the medical committee were examined. Much evidence was taken regarding the relations between the matron and the nursing staff, and between the matron and the medical staff. During the proceedings there were frequent displays of warm feeling. There was much bickering among members, and several stormy interludes delayed the enquiry. Just before it was adjourned one member made a remark of such a character that Dr Maguire, senior medical officer of the hospital, withdrew rrom the room, and then there was a heated exchange between the same member and Dr Pabst. A general withdrawal of the remarks to which objection was taken 'preceded the adjournment.
