STRATFORD. May 11. Mr Macdonald (Minister of Public Works) and Mr Laurenson (Minister of Labor), who visited Whangmomona to attend a banquet to Mr Joseph McLuggage,: returned to Stratford this mornnig, and went on to Wellington by the mail train. Deputations from co-opera-, tive workers on river diversion work* complained that they could earn only 6s per day, and asked redress. The opinions expressed were that men working in the back-blocks on railway work were the worst paid in New Zealand. Both Ministers promised to go fully into the matter.
