POTATOES AND ONIONS

Potatoes: A very small shipment from the South arrived by the Tarawera, consisting of 593 sacks. The market would be very bare but for a considerable portion of the Wanaka's shipment having been taken into store, and the arrivals from inland. As it is, the market is fairly well supplied, but the demand is very good. Price, £7 10s for good quality.

Onions: It is reported that Canterbury has very few left; in fact, it is uncertain whether supplies can be drawn from there after the end of this month. The iirst shipment of American onions will not be here until Julty or August, and a bare market is looked for unless other sources of supply are found; but at the present time none seem available. Stocks in town are very low, and xmtil after the next 'Frisco steamer arrives the supply will not be equal to the demand. Price, £11. —Auckland News.
