OKAIAWA v. KAPONGA.

This match was played on Victoria Park, Kaponga. Kaponga won the toss, and pressing their opponents, attempted a kick at goal from a mark, but were unsuccessful. Shortly after, from a scrum near their opponents line, the ball came out to Okaiawa's full-back, who fumbled, T. Luxton did likewise, and Baird, falling on the ball, scored Kaponga's first and only try. T. Winders failed to convert. After this, play worked up to Kaponga's 25, and from a scramble in the corner the ball came well over to the opposite side of the field. Kaponga's backs were taken unawares and T. Luxton had to only pick it up and score an easy try. Koro failed to convert. ' Play was again transfereed to Okaiawa's 25, Kaponga missing a score by failure on the part of one of their players to correctly locate the goal line, touching the ball down short of it. On play resuming, T. Luxton had a clear run in from the middle of the field for Okaiawa, but was unsupported and Nicholls, Kaponga's full, succeeded in stopping his career. Indecisive play followed till half time. In the second spell Kaponga pressed home one vigorous attack and scores were imminent on two occasions, but each time Okaiawa succeeded in carrying the ball back and forcing it. the referee's position on the other side of the pack, preventing him observing this manoeuvre in each case. From the 25 kick off following the last occasion, Okaiawa carried the ball down the field with a wellsustained rush, and R. Lynskey, following up his own kick and securing, slipped over and scored Okaiawa's second try. M. Lynskey failed to convert. After this play was even.
