SUICIDE.
Shortly after six o'clock on Tuesday evening the police received a telephone message that a native, a young man, aged 21 years, named Pani Ngeru, had committed suicide at 5 o'clock at a hut on th"c Tawhiti road. Dr MacDiarmid went to the scene of the occurrence and found life extinct. The unfortunate man had used a double-barrelled gun for the purpose, and having placed the weapon beneath his vest near tlie heart, leaned over and pulled the trigger. Death, it i^ believed, was instantaneous. He left a letter, written in the Maori language, at the end of which were the words in English, "Good-bye to all." It is under■stood f that the native had had some trouble over a love affair.
